A Gin Born Of Rainwater

Rainwater product
Two of the wettest places on the planet, Mawsynram and Cherrapunji, endow us with rainwater which helps craft our gin. There is, however, a paradox of abundance and lack that defines our hills, for drinking water is often scarce during winters. And hence we harvest the rain — not just for the story, but as an obligation to give back where we take from. And with this begins the story of Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin.
The Craft
The identity of Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin is based on an uncommon premise – using rain as the primary water source in a region defined by it
Distilled with purified rainwater rather than extracted groundwater, the spirit reflects both its geography and a conscious response to water scarcity in one of the wettest places on earth. Crafted with 12 botanicals native to India’s Northeast, the gin opens with vibrant citrus notes, moves into gentle spice, and finishes with a clean, rounded softness, and a smoky after taste.
In our lands where women lead and take center stage, a beaming Khasi lady in her jainsem is seen carrying a khoh—the unique wicker basket used to transport Khasi mandarins great distances without squishing them. She moves through valleys where bees pollinate grand orchids, and where clouds, hills, butterflies, and foxes abound. An iconic Bedford and Co. bus, a familiar sight until recently on Shillong’s roads, gives one a glimpse of the town’s irresistible flair for the quaint and picturesque.

Cherrapunji Gin Review
The Gin Guide Review: Cherrapunji Gin is vibrant and aromatic, showcasing the diversity of flavours from Northeast Indian botanicals. The aromas are attractive, interesting, and enticingly perfumed with bright citrus, tea notes, smokey cardamom, and undertones of spice and subtle florality. The flavour profile is equally characterful with flavoursome contrasts of mandarin and lemon alongside deep black cardamom and smoked tea notes, leading into a clean and citrussy finish enhanced with black pepper and tannins. With Tonic Water, Cherrapunji Gin delivers vivid flavours of citrus and tea notes with depth from cardamom and juniper, making for a G&T that is pleasingly contemporary and distinctive. – Paul Jackson, 2025
